Bulk Gift Card Purchases

Bulk gift card purchasing allows your customers to purchase multiple gift cards at once by uploading a CSV file. This feature is perfect for businesses that need to send gift cards to many recipients, such as corporate gifts, employee rewards, or customer appreciation campaigns.

Prerequisites

Before enabling bulk gift card purchasing, ensure you have:

  1. Theme App Extensions Enabled: Bulk purchasing requires theme app extensions to be enabled in your Shopify admin

  2. Gift Card Product Set Up: You must have at least one gift card product configured in your store

How to Enable Bulk Gift Card Purchasing

Step 1: Access Settings

  1. Log into your iziGift app dashboard

  2. Navigate to Settings → Send as Gift Button Settings

  3. Scroll down to the Bulk Purchase Settings section

Step 2: Enable the Feature

  1. Check the box next to "Enable bulk gift card purchasing for customers"

  2. Click "Save Settings"

Step 3: Verify Theme App Extensions

If you see a warning message about theme app extensions, you'll need to enable them:

  1. Click the "Approve" button in the warning message

  2. This will open your Shopify admin theme editor

  3. Follow these steps to enable the theme app extension:

    • From your Shopify admin, navigate to Online Store > Themes

    • Find the theme you want to edit and click Customize

    • In the theme editor, click the App embeds icon (it looks like a puzzle piece or a stacked rectangle) in the left sidebar

    • Locate the iziGift "Send as gift button" app embed from the list

    • Click the toggle button next to the app embed to turn it on

    • Click Save to apply your changes

    • Preview your store to see the app embed in action

How It Works for Your Customers

Once enabled, your customers will see a "Buy Gift Cards in Bulk" link below the regular "Send as Gift" button on your gift card product pages.

Customer Experience

  1. Upload CSV: Customers download a template CSV file and fill it with recipient information

  2. Validation: The system validates all email addresses and gift card amounts

  3. Preview: Customers can review their bulk purchase before adding to cart

  4. Checkout: Each gift card variant is added as a separate line item in the cart with descriptive properties:

    • Each variant appears as its own line item (e.g., "25× $50 Gift Card")

    • Cart shows a summary like "Bulk: 25× $50, 10× $100 | 35 recipients"

  5. Fulfillment: Individual gift cards are sent to each recipient after payment

CSV Template Format

The CSV template includes these columns:

  • first_name: Recipient's first name

  • last_name: Recipient's last name

  • email: Recipient's email address

  • message: Personal message (optional)

  • amount: Gift card amount (can be price like "$50" or variant name like "Spa Package")

Limits and Restrictions

  • Minimum: 2 gift cards per bulk purchase

  • Maximum: 500 gift cards per bulk purchase

  • File Size: CSV files must be under 2MB

  • Email Validation: All email addresses are verified for deliverability

  • Duplicate Detection: The system warns about duplicate email addresses

Troubleshooting

Bulk Purchase Button Not Showing

If customers don't see the "Buy Gift Cards in Bulk" link:

  1. Verify bulk purchasing is enabled in your iziGift settings

  2. Check that theme app extensions are properly configured

  3. Ensure you're viewing a gift card product page (not a regular product)

  4. Clear your browser cache and refresh the page

Theme App Extensions Warning

If you see a warning about theme app extensions:

  1. Click the "Approve" button in the warning

  2. This opens your Shopify admin theme editor

  3. Make sure the "Send as Gift Button" is enabled on your product pages

  4. Save your theme changes

Email Validation Errors

If customers get email validation errors:

  • Check that email addresses are properly formatted

  • Verify the email addresses exist and can receive emails

  • The system may suggest corrections for common typos
